Construction on what could become Western Australia’s most expensive apartment complex is set to kick off at the end of the month in one of Perth’s most coveted parcels of land.

Perth luxury developer Blackburne has appointed one of the country’s biggest builders, Multiplex, to the $350 million project, which has already raked in more than $200 million in pre-sales.

The Grove will include a collection of luxury apartments across two residential towers of 12 and 16 storeys each, with commercial tenancies and resort-style amenities in a separate podium building.

Blackburne has sold three penthouses since launching the project in September and will soon be releasing the design for a massive $22.7 residence which is on track to smash its sale record at the Subiaco One development.

Equipped with five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, the penthouse features almost 2000 square metres of living space across two levels, a private swimming pool, and an outdoor yoga and meditation deck with panoramic views of Rottnest Island and the Swan River.

It also has a 170-bottle wine cellar, a private garage with room for 16 vehicles and access to the complex’s communal facilities, which include a golf simulator, gym, steam room, poolside private dining, billiards lounge, rooftop cocktail lounge, and co-working space.

Residents will also have access to an in-house concierge and a butler.

The project is described as a “private urban retreat” on the website with a Hollywood-inspired grandiose pool, steam room and sauna, and a thermal bathhouse.

Managing director Paul Blackburne said the project built on the firm’s success in bringing high-rise luxury apartments to the western suburbs.

“There has been and still is a significant under-supply of larger high-end apartments in the western suburbs,” he said.

“We have now developed over $1 billion worth of apartments in the western suburbs, with The Grove being one of the largest and fastest-selling residential projects in the history of Western Australia.”

Mr Blackburne said the project’s main selling point was its unmatched location on the crossroads of Peppermint Grove, Cottesloe, and Claremont and panoramic views of the Swan River and the Indian Ocean across most levels.

Designed by architects MJA Studio, the project is located at the 15,741-square-metre site of the old Sundowner Hostel aged care facility which was put up for sale by Amana Living in 2019.

“We wanted all residents to be able to sit on their balcony and enjoy the surrounding landscape without needing to pay too much,” he said.

Blackburne has almost $1 billion worth of projects under construction, including Subiaco One, and is planning to launch another $300-million development in October.

Construction at The Grove is expected to kick off in late June creating about 400 jobs. Blackburn estimates the project will be completed in the spring of 2023.
